Our process

What it’s actually like to work with us.

Step by step

Six stages, no mystery.

The conversationYou tell us what’s going on. We ask questions. If it’s an emergency we move immediately; if it isn’t, we take the time to understand what you’re actually trying to achieve. Sometimes that conversation ends with us telling you that you don’t need a contractor yet. That’s a fine outcome.
Looking at it properlyWe come out and look. Not a two-minute walkthrough with a number scribbled on the back of a card — an actual assessment of what’s there, what’s behind it where we can tell, and what we can’t know until something is opened up.
Scope, cost, and the honest caveatsYou get a written scope and a price. You also get the part most people skip: what could change, what would trigger a change, and roughly what that would mean. Where it’s useful we’ll talk through best case and worst case before you commit.
The workYou know who’s coming and roughly when. You know who to call. If something changes, you hear it from us before you notice it yourself.
Finishing properlyWe walk it with you. If something isn’t right, we fix it — before we ask you to be happy with it.
AfterThe project ends. Call us anyway. Questions, advice, the next thing — that’s the point.
A homeowner reading through a written estimate at the kitchen table
Step one is a written scope you can read before any number is discussed.
A carpenter hanging new drywall over a freshly framed wall
Step two is the work itself, done in the order the house needs.
Tools packed and the floor swept at the end of a workday
Step three is leaving it clean and telling you exactly what happened that day.

Hire well, even if it isn’t us

How to tell an honest contractor from a good salesman.

We’d rather you hire well than hire us. So here’s what we think you should insist on from anyone — including us.

They put the scope in writing.Verbal scope is where disputes are born.
They explain what they don’t know.Anyone who claims total certainty about what’s behind a wall is guessing or bluffing.
They tell you about problems early. The cost of a problem rises every day it stays hidden.
They’re reachable. Not perfectly, not instantly — but reliably.
They don’t need a signature today.Urgency is a sales tactic far more often than it’s a real deadline.
They’ll tell you when you don’t need them.A contractor who has never talked you out of anything is selling, not advising.
Our standard: No avoidable surprises.

A two-way street

What we ask from you.

Good construction is a partnership. If you have a question, ask. If something concerns you, say so. If something doesn’t look right, tell us while it’s easy to fix.

We would far rather have an honest conversation today than find out later that you were unhappy and didn’t feel comfortable saying it.

Any questions before you start?

Ask us anything. We’ll give you a straight answer.
